Orton-Gillingham Decodable Stories – Level 2 – The Pet: Structured Literacy Decodable Book (level 2 orton-gillingham decodable stories 1)

About

Orton-Gillingham Decodable Stories: Level 2 – The Pet is a structured decodable reader designed for beginning readers learning through the Orton-Gillingham approach.

This Level 2 story builds on early short-vowel words and provides practice with closed-syllable words using short a, e, i, o, and u.

Readers practise qu in quack, the digraphs ch in chat, sh in fish, and final ck in words such as Nick and duck. The story also includes FLOSS words such as mess and will, along with the suffix -s in words such as naps, pats, sits, chats, and hugs.

Carefully controlled text, short sentences, and repeated question-and-answer patterns help children build accurate decoding, fluency, confidence, and reading independence.

About the Story

Nick’s pal Tim has a pet cat. Nick enjoys holding and patting the cat, and he decides that he would like a pet of his own.

Nick asks Mom for a cat, a dog, a pig, and even a duck. Each time, Mom explains why the animal may not be the right pet.

Mom talks to Dad, and they decide that Nick can get a fish. Nick is thrilled and hugs both Mom and Dad.

The repeated questions, simple responses, and clear story sequence help beginning readers practise accurate decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
